A video emerged showing a thief being caught by a taxi driver and taken to the victim. The video soon turns violent as the victim and other members of the public proceed to beat up the thief. Police claim to be unaware of the incident.
A thief tried his luck in Hillbrow on Saturday and came off far worse than he expected. After shoving his hand through a taxi window and then making off with someone's cell phone, the man thought he had scored.
However, the taxi driver was not about to let one of his passengers be robbed. He promptly jumped out of his taxi and chased after the thief.
When he caught the man, he brought him over to the victim for punishment. The victim proceeded to give him a kick he will not soon forget. The crowd then joined in on the beating.
Captain Kay Makhubela claims that the police have no information about the incident and did not know about it, according to a report by The Daily Sun.
South Africans discussed the video online and the general opinion was that it was good that crime is being taken on by the public since police are lacking in their performance:
@TlhogiMr - Together, we can make our streets safe again
@highwaymanza - Well if the cops sit in their offices filling in dockets , somebody has to dish out the justice.
@zeeman_bonnyWow .. we need to stand together against crime .
