- However, the ordeal left social media users divided
A fight took place on Sunday, 9 September at OR Tambo between Orlianski and a 30-year-old Uber driver, who hails Daveyton.
According to the airport security, the altercation was allegedly over a parking space. Journalist Karyn Maughan took to social media to announce Orlianski sadly did not survive the injuries he sustained during the ordeal.
The death of Orlianski and the altercation between the two men divided social media users. Some felt the accused should not have assaulted an elderly man, no matter what the reason.
Redi Tlhabi wrote, "I wonder whether it actually was a fight. An Uber driver against a 71 year old man....I wonder. Maybe it was a fight. But an unequal one."
However, Briefly.co.za gathered other social media users felt the entire story was not known and the accused might have acted out of self defence.
According to the CCTV footage of the airport, Orlianski allegedly got out of his SUV to kick the car of the Uber driver.
The driver, who was identified as Tebogo Makhalemele, got out of his car and the two men were seen arguing before they started throwing punches, TimesLIVE reported.
A security guard broke up the fight and Makhalemele went to fetch his clients' luggage. While he was busy loading the luggage in his car, Oslianski returned to continue the fight.
It was believed it was then when Makhalemele threw the fatal shots, leaving Oslianski on the ground while he drove off.
Makhalemele applied for bail, but on Monday it was denied- meaning he would remain in custody until his next hearing.
