Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane is confident that he could well have found the next Percy Tau. Phakamani Mahlambi recently joined the current PSL champions and his new boss sees similarities between him and Tau.

The 21-year-old Mahlambi joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Egyptian giants Al-Ahly during the July transfer window and made his debut for the Brazilians on Sunday against AmaZulu. He justified his debut by scoring in his first match for his new club.

Mosimane said he believes his new player will like Tau and Khama Billiat did before him learn and grow at Mamelodi Sundowns. Mosimane added that Mahlambi would definitely learn a thing or two under his guidance.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Mosimane was happy with Mahlambi’s performance in his first match for the Chloorkop-based side but smiled and added that he was signed to score goals and he did what was expected of him.

Kickoff.co.za reported that Mosimane was careful not to heap too much praise or criticism on Mahlambi but said he believed the player should have scored another goal. Mosimane said Mahlambi allowed a defender to take the ball away from him at just the wrong moment.

Overall Mosimane was impressed and is pleased to have such a good base from which to work. He said Mahlambi was still young and very raw and would need a lot of polishing before he reached his potential.

Mosimane said Mahlambi would become a better player not only for Mamelodi but for South African football as a whole after he had worked with the youngster for about two years.

Mamelodi Sundowns are currently in something of a rebuilding phase after losing Percy Tau to the English Premier League and Khama Billiat left for arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
