- A video showing a confrontation between a paramedic and local SA man went viral since the weekend
- The man took the paramedic on and accused her of carrying alcohol in the ambulance - to which she admitted
- The paramedic asked the man what he was going to do about it and admitted to using the vehicle for personal reasons
An emergency medical services official is under investigation after she was filmed using an ambulance for private and personal use.
The paramedic admitted to the accusation and the Health Department in Limpopo is now on her case.
Local South Africans confronted the paramedic and filmed the confrontation. The man accused the paramedic of dropping off alcohol in a government vehicle.
It is not seen in the video but the paramedic admits to doing so and then asks the man what he is going to do about it.
The paramedic went on to say that she uses the ambulance for private use all the time. She added that there is no way she could not use it for what she wants.
Neil Shikwambana, provincial health spokesperson, stated that the Department of Health is very disappointed by what happened.
News24 reported that Shikwambana added that the department is disturbed by the way the paramedic behaved in the video.
The department has a zero-tolerance policy for the misuse of state vehicles. There are circumstances when it is acceptable for a paramedic to buy refreshments or drinks but using the vehicles for private use is not allowed.
According to Shikwambana, the department made contact with the paramedic and started an investigation and will act accordingly.
