Mandoza’s widow Mpho has spoken out about how she and her kids are still struggling to cope with the loss of their husband and father two years after he passed away from brain cancer.
Mpho, friends and family of Mandoza have unveiled a statue of the Kwaito king at the Soweto Theatre in a way to celebrate the mark he made in South African music.
The late singer’s wife felt that the statue would be a great way to immortalise him although she admits that it was an emotional process to plan for it.
Mandoza passed away on Mpho’s birthday, so she and her family always have mixed feelings as the day rolls around, but she is doing her best to keep their children positive despite their loss.
This year she chose that she wants to celebrate her birthday as well as her husband’s life because that is what he would want her to do.
Briefly.co.za learned that Mpho puts all of her energy on her kids, so she can be their shoulder to cry on whenever they are feeling down.
To mark the second anniversary, TimesLIVE reports that Mpho unveiled the new statue as part of the Mandoza Foundation, which has been started to honour the Kwaito king’s achievements throughout his career.
