A heroic teenager has succumbed to the severe burns he sustained while trying to put out a farm fire near Reitz, Free State.
18-year-old Dian Terblanche and his dad Dieter were battling the veld fire about two weeks ago, News24 reports.
A sudden change of wind drove the fire towards Dian, Briefly.co.za learned. He suffered 85% burns. His dad also sustained burns on his arm, which had to be amputated.
Updates from the Hero Burn Foundation's Facebook page showed that Dian bravely fought to stay alive for nearly two weeks. The Foundation supports burn victims.
His wounds had to be cleaned every 48 hours in the operating theatre. Sadly, Dian succumbed on 19 September after his brave fight.
Friends and family had earlier held night vigils and prayers for Dian. The Hero Burn Foundation was inundated with messages of sympathy and support for his family.
