To kick off Albinism Awareness month, albino model Refilwe Modiselle took to social media to help break down the stigma that many people have against those living with the condition.
The model is one of the first African models who has albinism to make a successful career for herself.
She has been using her platform to empower women and children to feel beautiful in their skin as well as helping to break down the stigma associated with it.
Popular TV series, ‘Uzalo’ is also doing what they can to help shine the light on the daily struggles that people with albinism face, especially since the number of murders for albino body parts has increased drastically.
Briefly.co.za learned that the stigma seems to be fading away, this comes after a social media user asked their followers to retweet a picture of ‘Uzalo’ actors Simphiwe Nxumalo and Owethu Zulu if they thought that they were beautiful.
However, the tweep was slammed for singling them out, with many people arguing that they are beautiful just like everyone else in the world. No Twitter poll was needed to determine that.
Ghafla! reports that Refilwe stressed to her followers that she is no different to anyone else. She just might be lacking some melanin and struggles with her eyesight, but she is still human.
