- 3 Police officers were arrested after trying to bribe a complainant
- The officers held the man at gunpoint and demanded R190 000 in return for not opening a case of money laundering
- The incident was reported to the Hawks and the officers, who will appear in court on Tuesday, 25 September, were tracked down
The Hawks stated on Friday that 3 police officers have been taken into custody on charges of armed robbery and corruption.
Apparently, the 3 officers tried to solicit a bribe from someone who was filing a complaint on 7 September.
The accused officers were stationed at the Bela-Bela police station, according to a report by News24.
The officers robbed the complainant of roughly R190 000 - at gunpoint. The officers first took the man from a local gambling facility, then said they would not open a case of money laundering - if he paid them the R190 000.
Captain Matimba Maluleke of the Hawks confirmed this accusation.
The attempted bribery was reported to the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit of the Hawks and the officers were tracked down.
The accused officers will be appearing in the Bela-Bela Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 25 September.
