- Lebohang Maboe is Sidwell Maboe's son
- Sidwell once played for several top sides, including Orlando Pirates
- He expressed pride that Lebohang has kept the family's soccer name alive
It's a fairytale case of "like father, like son" for Mamelodi Sundowns star Lebohang Maboe and his dad Sidwell Maboe.
Sidwell Maboe, 47, is well known as a former soccer star. Between 1991 and 2002, he played for several top sides, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, and Bloemfontein Celtics.
His son Lebohang, 24, now keeps the family's soccer name alive. He's emerging as a top prospect in the local professional circuit, Sowetan reports.
Sidwell expressed pride in his son:
I am so proud of my boy Lebo. He has kept the family name alive and is doing very well. My heart is filled with joy whenever I see him play.
For his part, Lebohang said he always consults his dad about his game:
I share a very special bond with him. After games we talk and he's able to tell me when I had a bad game. Everything I do I consult with him.
Sidwell lived a simple life during his playing days and raised his three children to be humble, Briefly.co.za learned.
As a result, he was able to pay off his house and provide for his family. He now works for Lesedi local municipality in Sedibeng, Johannesburg.
Interestingly, Lebohang's current coach, Pitso Mosimane, was Sidwell's assistant coach at SuperSport United about 20 years ago.
