Highlands Park's goalkeeper and captain Tapuwa Kapini does more than simply stopping shots going into the net for a living.
According to SowetanLIVE, he also runs a car repair business on the side. He and his business partner fix car gearboxes at their workshop in Pomona, Kempton Park.
It all started when his car's gearbox broke down a few years ago, Briefly.co.za learned. A car dealership slapped him with a R46,000 quotation for a new gearbox.
Tapuwa simply couldn't afford this amount. He therefore approached a friend who had some knowledge of gearboxes.
Together, they managed to fix his gearbox — and that's how their business started. It's registered as Trec Gearbox Specialists. Tapuwa explained:
We have four employees. Most of the time I am in camp with the team and that's when my partner Emmanuel steps up and does everything.
The booming business repairs around four cars per day. Tapuwa plans to obtain an analogous certificate soon to expand his mechanical knowledge.
The 34-year-old keeper previously played for AmaZulu and Platinum Stars. Although he's from Zimbabwe, he speaks IsiZulu and Sestwana fluently.
Retirement from soccer is not yet in the horizon for Tapuwa, as he plans to play for as long as he can. He makes sure to be with his family and kids during his free time.
