In 2015, Sindisiwe Manqele was sentenced to 12 years in prison after she had been found guilty of the murder of her boyfriend, hip-hop musician Flabba. Sindisiwe has been studying hard and recently graduated with an honours degree in business.
127 convicted criminals from Gauteng graduated with uni degrees, and Sindisiwe was one of them.
Sindisiwe said she realised that a lot of people were affected and hurt by Flabba's murder. She added that she studied so hard because she is trying to make up for what she did.
There are a lot of wrongs I need to right. This is me trying to make up for the wrongs I have done.
eNCA reported that Sindisiwe was present at a ceremony at Boksburg Prison.
The graduate said she hopes to walk away from prison as someone better.
Michael Masutha, Justice and Correctional Services Minister was in charge of the graduation ceremony.
The prison also opened a new school.
Masutha believes that by educating prisoners, they are helped to live a better life and not return to a life of crime.
