127 proud Gauteng prisoners inspire by graduating from behind bars

25 September was a proud day for Gauteng inmates as they received qualifications in their chosen fields. 127 prisoners enjoyed a feeling of accomplishment during a ceremony at the Boksburg Correctional Centre.

Inmates from 8 Gauteng correctional centres who studied hard were rewarded with degrees, diplomas and certificates.

One of these inmates was Sindisiwe Manqele, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison after she had been found guilty of the murder of her boyfriend, hip-hop musician Flabba. Sindisiwe graduated with an honours degree in business, as reported on earlier by Briefly.co.za.

Michael Masutha, Justice and Correctional Services Minister, is proud of every graduate.

The day was rounded off with the unveiling of a new education centre - New Leaf. Prisoners were involved in its construction.
