- Rapulana Seiphemo faces five counts of contravening tax laws
- He appeared in court on Wednesday and will return on October 18
- The actor failed to pay taxes for five years and owes SARS R160k
Generations the Legacy actor Rapulana Seiphemo has found himself in a bit of a sticky situation with SARS. TAX season 2018 has been real, SARS’s got no chill.
The charges are based on the actor's failure to submit his returns from 2013 to date, reported Times Live.
Briefly.co.za learnt that, on Wednesday, he appeared in the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court. He is said to owe SARS R160 000.00 in total.
The owed amount is an accumulation of R48 000.00 in taxes and R111 000.00 in penalties.
Phindi Mjonondwana of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the claims of tax evasion against Seiphemo. He ‘faces five counts of contravening tax laws’ due to his failure in submitting his tax returns.
Seiphemo was a man of few words on the day of the proceedings. It was reported that he only spoke when needed, other than that, his lawyer was the only one who heard from him that day.
The outcome amounted to a postponement, giving him time to make representations to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Seiphemo will appear in court again on October 18 to proceed with his state served case of tax evasion.
