- Thabang Molaba and Tumi Seeco have been pulled from the ‘Hunk of the Year’ category
- Both celebs had their niminations stripped when organisers learned that they had sent out homophobic tweets in the past
- The event has a zero-tolerance policy on homophobic or discriminatory behaviour and they didn’t want to be associated with either of them
Tumi Seeco and Thabang Molaba have both had their nominations for ‘Hunk of the Year’ withdrawn at the 2018 Feather Awards after homophobic tweets surfaced.
Model Tumi Seeco had his nomination revoked immediately after organisers came across a tweet he posted in 2012.
Seeco tweeted that children who see their mothers abusing their fathers, will grow up to be gay but he has since removed the tweet.
A spokesperson for the event issued a statement that explained their decision to remove the model from the nomination was because his views go against those of the organisers. The organisers also use the awards ceremony to highlight the ongoing struggles that sexual minorities face, and they hope to put an end to discrimination and homophobia.
‘The Queen’ actor had a slightly different experience with the organisers, when he clapped back at them for stripping him of his nomination.
Briefly.co.za learned that Molaba came under fire for a tweet he supposedly sent out in 2015, however he is not taking full responsibility for it.
Molaba argues that because the tweet is under somebody else’s name, so the organisers have no real proof that he really said it.
The remark in question was posted by a tweep in the comment section on another status and they claimed that it was directly from Thabang.
City Press reports that the actor is offended by the organisers’ actions and for implying that he would ever make homophobic comments.
He also goes on to say that he believes that there has to be something seriously wrong with any person who feels that it is fine to discriminate someone based on their sexuality.
While Molaba has tried to clear his name, Seeco has remained quiet on the matter.
The Feather Awards have recently announced their resignations from the ‘Hunk of the Year’ and also revealed that Afrikaans heartthrob, Bobby Van Jaarsveld and ANC Bae, Advocate Dominic Khumalo will be taking their places.
