South Africa's diplomatic community might just get a little more glamorous if US President Donald Trump has his way.
Trump has nominated South Africa-born Lana Marks as the next US ambassador to South Africa, Briefly.co.za gathered.
Senior diplomatic posts are often handed to retired politicians. However, Marks is a luxury handbag designer who counts several celebrities as her clients.
According to SABC, President Cyril Ramaphosa is considering Trump's nomination of Marks. This is usually a matter of formality.
Although Marks was born in South Africa, she is a US citizen based in Palm Beach, Florida. She sells her top-class handbags via her company, Lana Marks Collections.
Marks is considered a heavyweight in the fashion industry. According to her website, she was selected as the handbag and accessory consultant to the Academy Awards in 2000 and 2002.
Celebrities who have sported her accessories include Madonna, Kate Winslet, Oprah Winfrey, Charlize Theron, and Jennifer Aniston.
