Old apartheid SA flag art at Durban Botanic Garden irks South Africans online

Tweeps were outraged after a video was shared online, which showed the old apartheid flag at the Durban Botanic Garden.

The video was shared on Twitter by social media user @NjabsZwane on Sunday, and it sparked quite the debate.

"The old flag still stands at Durban Botanic Garden! When you come from the other direction you see the new flag. What is this???????" the video was captioned.

Briefly.co.za gathered the video sparked quite the reaction on social media and tweeps were left disgusted by the display of the old South African flag, which symbolises the oppression of the majority for many people.

Social media user @libwineguy wrote, "I hate this flag with a passion. I do not care whether it shows transformation or not. It is a sign of oppression. Why not hang the Nazi flag and then the German flag. There are other ways of showing transformation. This is not one of them!"
Another tweep @4Clemie commented: "This is the price you pay for forgiving the people who never asked for forgiveness."

However, the Garden has since responded to video, adding it was a representation of the transformation of the country from apartheid to democracy.
