Sunset Reef is a favourite hangout for surfers who are serious about catching the best waves. One such surfer had a bad wipeout that could have been worse if it were not for the swift reaction of the men nearby.

Murray Willcocks shared the video on Facebook and said Darty Louw was riding one of the biggest waves of the day when he had his wipeout.

Murray is a Capetonian lifeguard and thanks to him and Jem Johnson, a PWC (personal watercraft) driver, Darty lived to talk about the crazy moment.

SApeople reports that other surfers called the rescuers legends and said that the rescue was 'mental'.

As for Darty, well, he's just grateful for their brave actions.

No-one is more appreciative of Jem’s heroic driving than me. I still owe him a lot of beer. Shot Murray for the vid, It always lekker to go back and relive an exciting moment.

Murray thanked all the guys who went in to help.

Huge shoutout to all the boys for charging out there! There were some mind-blowing waves ridden!
