Rubber bullets, tear gas and an injured madala: 6 shock scenes of the #WestburyShutdown

On Monday, the #WestburyShutdown protests continued and to say things got out of hand would be putting it lightly.

Residents of Westbury in Johannesburg launched a total shutdown of the area in an attempt to protest the gang issues which is crippling it.

According to the protesters, they demand that the army step up to help them deal with the high gang-related crimes in the area, as well as the drug problem it faces.

However, the protest got violent and police stepped in with rubber bullets and tear gas. News24 reported an elderly man tried to calm tensions between the police and the protesters, but he ended up getting shot in the face with a rubber bullet.

According to the report, the man was rushed to the hospital with a bloody face. Social media blew up with posts about the protest and decided to take a look at six of the most shocking posts of the #WestburyShutdwon.

Social media user @MvunyelwaRadebe wrote, "The situation at Westburry is tense. Never seen angry residents like that in a long time #WestburyShutdown."

A photo was also shared on Twitter of a local bus station, which was set on fire by the angry residents.
