Highlands Park FC will play in front of a sold-out home crowd when they take on footballing giants Kaizer Chiefs in their Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa township on Tuesday evening.
The stadium has an official capacity of 15 000 but the club was only permitted to sell 13 000 tickets in a bid to ensure crowd safety and security at the ageing township stadium. Fans who do not have tickets have been told not to go to the venue.
Kaizer Chiefs have the opportunity to go top of the PSL log if they win the match against Highlands Park in what would be a remarkable turnaround for the club in recent weeks.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Highlands might be relatively new to the top flight but the side will be far from being a pushover. Owen da Gama’s men have only lost one of their matches this season and have managed to secure four out of six possible points at home.
KickOff.co.za reported that Kaizer Chiefs are looking to build on an impressive run of three victories on the trot. The PSL giants have turned their fortunes around since the FIFA mandated break a couple of weeks ago and suddenly look like the powerhouse side of old.
The Glamour Boys have won both of the club’s two previous encounters in the 2016/17 season.
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Giovanni Solinas said he and his players had used the mini-break while the MTN8 Cup final was being played to refine their game and work on key aspects.
Solinas said he was pleased with the overall progress of his players and the way in which they have responded to his tactics. Solinas is well aware that Highlands Park will not be easy to beat.
The club has already managed to hold the other two PSL giants Orlando Pirates and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns to draws in the opening rounds of the PSL.
The match will start at 19:30 on Tuesday night.
