Kaizer Chiefs emerged as the big winners in the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) monthly awards for September. Head coach Giovanni Solinas was named as the coach of the month while his star player Khama Billiat scooped up the best player award.

The awards come as Kaizer Chiefs have started to look somewhat rampant since the FIFA mandated break at the end of August. The PSL giants won three matches on the trot before being held to a draw by Highlands Park on Tuesday evening.

Solinas received the award ahead of Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic. He received the award for the stunning turnaround at Kaizer Chiefs which saw the club recover from a nightmare start to recording three wins.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the club scored eight league goals and conceded only two during the winning streak. The Glamour Boys managed to pick-off the current MTN8 Champions Cape Town City, Free State Stars and AmaZulu.

Kickoff.co.za reported that Billiat has been instrumental in the team’s success. He scored two goals and assisted in two more during the three matches.

TimesLive.co.za reported that Solinas credited his players for the award. He said it was thanks to their hard work and perseverance that the side had moved forward from a nightmare start to the season. He also thanked the fans for remaining patient and committed to the side.

Solinas has nothing but praise for his star player and even compared Billiat with Lionel Messi.

Billiat joined Kaizer Chiefs at the end of last season from current PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns. His former side’s lack of goal scoring serves to emphasise just how good a player Billiat is.

The Zimbabwean born striker is widely thought of as the best player in the PSL at the moment he is believed to be the best-paid player in South Africa although his exact salary is not known.
