Bloemfontein Celtic fans are regarded by many in the footballing community as the most passionate football supporters in South Africa. The crowd at the Dr Molema Stadium in Bloemfontein certainly lived up to this reputation on Wednesday night.

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso ‘Jingles’ Mosimane experienced this passion for himself after his side’s 0-0 draw with the home side in their PSL clash on Wednesday night. Mosimane was honoured when a section of the famous crowd started singing in his honour.

A visibly moved Mosimane was treated to song and dance by the Bloemfontein crowd before being joined by the home coach Steve Komphela.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Mosimane was clearly stunned and amazed by the display put on in his honour which was in part for his exploits in leading Mamelodi Sundowns to the CAF Champions League title in 2016 and the PSL title last year.

An emotional Mosimane thanked the crowd after the match. Sowetanlive.co.za reported that Mosimane also spoke about the home club’s off-field troubles.

Mosimane said it was a tragedy that financial issues were threatening the survival of such an amazing club. He added that it was sad to see a club with such passionate and loyal fans facing an uncertain future.

Mosimane’s remarks were in reference to the ongoing financial crisis at Bloemfontein Celtic. The club’s owners are struggling to find buyers for the club and had to ask the PSL for a loan recently in order to meet its financial obligations to players and creditors.

The situation has led to players not receiving their pay or being paid late twice already this season, the last time this happened the players refused to take part in training and lost their match against Black Leopards.

Despite the problems, Bloemfontein has been one of the standout sides in the league this season. The side currently sits in fourth place on the PSL log having only lost one of their matches.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have struggled this season, the team looks like a shell of its former great self. Mosimane is obviously still struggling to find the right combinations to take up the slack after Percy Tau and Khama Billiat departed the team.

Mosimane has admitted that the side is in a rebuilding phase and pleaded with the club’s fans to have patience. He has expressed his confidence in his playing squad but said it would take time to mould the side into a cohesive unit.
