Video shows on-duty SA cop allegedly hijacking couple at gunpoint

It appears crime is not just reserved for thugs anymore- a video was shared on social media which showed a cop allegedly hijacking a couple.

On Sunday, a video was shared on social media, where a police officer was filmed allegedly hijacking a couple on the R23 in Mpumalanga.

Briefly.co.za learned the incident took place at Balfour on Saturday night and the footage was shared on Facebook page Stolen, Hijacked Cars & Crime in RSA.

"We were hijacked yesterday by this police officer. His name is Gcinumuzi J Mashinini. This happened at Balfour in R23, and this police officer work at Balfour Police Station. The car reg. JLW 560 MP, charcoal Polo Vivo 2018 model," the video was captioned.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, the police officer has since been arrested.

SAlivemag reported the 33-year-old cop, who was stationed at the Balfour police station, pulled over the motorist and his wife and ordered them to get out of the car.

He then hijacked the couple at gunpoint and left the police van behind. The cop was taken into custody on Tuesday night after he turned himself in.

The footage shocked South Africans, who took to social media to share their views on the video.
