On Saturday, September 29, Stuttgart won their first match at the new Bundesliga season with Werder Bremen (2-1) but the clash became popular for another reason.
The game was significant due to one of the most bizarre own goals in the history of Germany by home goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. His mental lapse allowed Werder to score in the 68th minute.
Just look at this YouTube video below.
Thanks to this goal there was draw 1-1 at the scoreboard at 20 minutes before the end of the match, but luckily for their fans Stuttgart was able to find the back of the net minutes later to take their first three points of the season.
Zieler’s own goal came after failing to pay attention to Borna Sosa’s throw-in.
Despite many people holding Zieler responsible for the own goal, others have lamed the blame at Sosa for throwing the ball in without checking if the goalkeeper was ready.
Stuttgart is now in 16th place in the Bundesliga standings. After 2-1 win the team has 5 points in 6 matches now.
Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported about fans reactions after Neymar destroyed Red Star in Champions League.
