You would be forgiven if you didn’t know that some of Mzansi’s most celebrated celebs actually took part in reality competitions in their respective crafts.
But, despite not taking home the title, this group of celebrities have still managed to become household names through hard work, determination, vision and passion.
In honour of them, Briefly.co.za takes a look at 5 local celebs who did not win reality show competitions.
1. Nandi Madida
Nandi Madida first made it onto our small screens when she competed in the presenter search on SABC 1’s Live Amp.
Nandi didn’t win the competition. Instead, her bestie, Minnie Dlamini – Jones won.
She entered several other presenter search competition, but eventually, her hard work and persistence paid off and she made a name for herself in the industry.
Nandi, who is from Durban, now has a fashion label called, Colours, a TV hosting gig on BET Africa and a sizzling music career. She even ventured into acting, landing a leading role on Mzansi Magic’s The Road.
Shekhinah is one of South Africa’s most successful musicians. Without her sultry sounds, we don’t know how we would get through modern-day life.
She was a contestant in the popular Idols SA competition, but was voted out.
When she was voted out, Shekhinah enrolled at AFDA, but even before graduation day, the musician already had several hit songs on the charts.
She even won a number of SAMA awards for her debut album, Rosegold earlier in 2018.
3. Shane Eagle
Rapper Shane Eagle had a good run on Vuzu’s show, The Hustle.
Most of his fans were shocked when he was voted out of the competition.
Shane Eagle had quite a run on Vuzu’s, The Hustle. Most viewers were taken aback when the rapper was voted out of the competition.
But, this didn’t deter the rapper, who released a winning album, Yellow. The record also went on to win best hip-hop album at 2018’s SAMA awards.
He also has his own record label, Eagle Entertainment.
4. Nomzamo Mbatha
Nomzamo’s journey began when she entered MTV Base’s VJ Presenter search. Sadlt, Nomzamo didn’t make it.
But in true Nomzamo style, she got back up, dusted off the dust and carried on.
Little did the beauty realise her big break was thanks to the presenter search competition.
She climbed into South Africans’ hearts during one of her several acting gigs and has even represented brands such as Neutrogena, Audi, Puma to mention a few. Nomzamo is a firm go-getter.
5. Pallance Dladla
Pallance Dladla was once a contestant on Class Act on SABC 1. But, that’s probably all a distant memory to the hunky actor.
At just 19, Pallance won a SAFTA award for a role he played on an Etv show.
He is best known for his role as Jabulani Zungu in Isibaya.
