On Monday, it was reported Nhlanhla Nene asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to remove him as the Finance Minister.
However, Nene's request to be sacked sparked quite the debate on social media, with South Africans divided on the situation.
So, Briefly.co.za decided to take a look at six reactions to Nene's request.
1. Floyd Shivambu vows to remove Nene
Even if Ramaphosa does not fire Nene, the EFF would make it their mission to remove the Finance Minister.
"He is a liar, who is being assisted by one other Minister in the current government to concoct stories and use the media platforms they control for PR exercises. The EFF assures the people of South Africa that, like we won with Zuma, we will win the battle against Nhlanhla Nene," the EFF deputy head said.
2. Firing Nene would give Ramaphosa a platform to sack Dlamini, Mokhonyane and Gigaba
3. Who was not involved with Guptas?
Mosibudi Mangena, who goes by the Twitter handle @t_mangenam, wrote: "Nhlanhla Nene climbed a mountain to save us and future generations from the disastrous nuclear deal, only to be tripped by a molehill fib. Now the queastion is no longer who in the governing was entrapped by the Gupta web, but who was not.Phew!!"
4. It's now Cyril Ramaphosa's dilemma
5. Nene's request to be sacked it the right thing to do
6. Firing Nene would look bad for Ramaphosa
Earlier Briefly.co.za reported Nene allegedly asked Ramaphosa to fire him after he has been under public and political pressure since his testimony at the Zondo Commission.
