The 30-year-old only made his maiden appearance of the season over the weekend. Traditionally, goalkeepers are known to hit their prime in their thirty’s and this could be Mabokgwane’s time to shine.

The Buccaneers were held to a 1-1 draw against Amazulu on Saturday.

Mabokgwane felt Amazulu’s approach contributed to a lively, open spectacle. “We made it tough for ourselves. AmaZulu is a very good team, they attack, they don’t park a bus against big teams, so they gave us a good game” he said via his club’s website.

He went on to add “On my personal performance, of course it’s good that I performed and obviously I stand a chance to keep my position in the team, which is good for myself”.

Though it’s understandable that Mabokgwane would focus on his own game to retain his place, he also emphasized that the team’s performance overrides that of his own.
