The three-week-old saga between Baroka FC star player Talent Chawapiwa and the club’s coach Wedson Nyirenda is finally over. The duo has reportedly been suffering a strained relationship in recent weeks because Nyirenda felt Chawapiwa showed bad manners and disrespected him by refusing to shake hands after he was substituted.
Chawapiwa has now officially apologised to the coach and the two have vowed to put the incident behind them and move forward. Chawapiwa said he had spoken to Nyirenda and understood what he had done to upset the coach.
Chawapiwa admitted that he had a tendency of trying to deflect criticism and blame others when things were not going 100% in his favour. He said after he apologised to Nyirenda they shook hands and moved on.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Chawapiwa said he needed the coach and the coach needed him in order to achieve the best results for the team. Chawapiwa added that he still had two years on his contract at the club which meant he could still learn and grow.
Citizen.co.za reported that Chawapiwa said he still had a lot to offer the club and still wanted to learn as much as he could from Nyirenda.
The spat occurred after Chawapiwa reportedly refused to shake hands with Nyirenda after a match in which the coach substituted him. Nyirenda a notorious stickler for rules, regulations and professionalism did not look kindly at the incident.
He said it showed bad manners and a lack of respect on behalf of Chawapiwa and it was his role as head coach to guide the players and help them be professional.
Chawapiwa has been on the radar of Orlando Pirates with reports indicating he had been sold to the PSL giants. The club has since denied these reports and said it would not release Chawapiwa from his contract early.
