PSL referees have committed numerous high profile errors recently and SAFA (South African Football Association) have vowed to address this.
Sport24.co.za reported that Tenda Masikhwa, Head of Referees, vowed that SAFA would be working hard to reduce avoidable errors. He said "We acknowledge that teams invest a lot of resources in running their business. We have seen some borderline game-changing decisions in some matches.
"For example, the Bloemfontein Celtic vs Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City vs Bidvest Wits and a few others just to mention a few” he added.
Masikhwa acknowledged that referees are only human and that it would be impossible to eliminate mistakes altogether. Briefly.co.za gathered the objective is to reach a stage where clear-cut, avoidable errors aren’t made.
According to Masikhwa, the PSL boasts some of the best referees in Africa. SAFA, in conjunction with the Referees Department, have initiated the Intervention Programme with a view to taking officiating to the next level.
