- Babes Wodumo is not worried about her competition taking her place as the Queen of Gqom
- She knows that she is good at what she does and that other artists are going to have to work extremely hard if they want to match her success
- Since she arrived on the scene, Babes has noticed that many artists have followed suit, however, not all of them have the talent to make it big
Babes Wodumo has paved the way for many female Gqom artists but she doesn’t feel threatened by their attempts to dethrone her.
She has worked hard to get where she is, while other artists have been using Babes’ name to create more opportunities for themselves.
The Queen of Gqom is aware of their attempts to get ahead but she feels that they are going to have to work much harder if they want they want people to pay attention to them.
The ‘Wololo’ hit-maker is used to other artists coming forward with claims tat their music is better than hers, but she thinks that they need to up their game before they make such bold claims.
Babes is also not surprised when another artist accuses her of stealing their track because she knows that she can do it better than them.
Briefly.co.za reported that she was involved in a scandal over the song ‘Domoroza’ which she and TDK Macassette released at the same time earlier this year.
While both ladies put their own spin on it, a producer slammed them for stealing his music, but nothing came of his allegations.
Babes is glad to see that she has motivated so many new artists to pursue a career in the Gqom scene, however she thinks it should be more about quality than quantity.
The musician has noticed that the genre has become oversaturated with many mediocre artists, but there is some new talent that she has her eyes on, like Busiswa.
Busiswa has caught Babes’ attention and she hopes to see her go far in the future.
The Gqom queen is looking for new artists to join her record label, however, she won’t be signing any artist who makes a similar style of music.
According to TimesLIVE, Babes wants to focus on her own career for now and it wouldn’t work out if she had another Gqom artist working with her.
She goes on to say that she’s not concerned about having competition, but she is worried that it could cause a rift between them.
Babes feels that it could look like sabotage if one of them does better than the other, so for now she only wants to think about herself.
