A Belgium tourist was left surprised by the South African hospitality after petrol station staff returned her missing handbag to her.
A tourist forgot her handbag, full of valuables, at an Engen One stop petrol station in Mossel Bay. Instead of taking her belongings, the petrol station staff send her handbag back to her- all the way to Belgium.
Michèle Simonis forgot her handbag at the petrol station while her family was on vacation in the Western Cape.
However, when she realised the handbag was gone, they were already 200km away from the gas station.
Gavin Smith, Engen's communication manager, confirmed the handbag was sent back to the Belgium woman.
Briefly.co.za learned Lynette Josephs, Hazel Matiso and Monique Floors were the employees who found the handbag.
They sent the handbag to a guest house owner's son, who was on his way to Germany. Maroela Media reported he then shipped the handbag back to Belgium.
The woman's husband, Luc, said everything was still in the handbag, even the money.
"I am extremely proud of our employees," Dirk Van Niekerk, Mossel Bay's Engen One's director said.
