- Mark Lee and Gina Lee-Lyons were on their honeymoon in Sri Lanka
- They booked themselves into a hotel and went on to overindulge in alcohol
- When they sobered up, they discovered they had bought the hotel
British couple Mark Lee and Gina Lee-Lyons were having so much fun on their honeymoon that they bought a hotel in a bout of drunkenness.
The lovebirds booked themselves into a cheap hotel in Sri Lanka in December 2017, Daily Sun reports.
They proceeded to overindulge in the local rum with fellow holidayers, Briefly.co.za gathered. When they sobered up, they discovered they had bought the hotel for £10 000 (around R193 000).
Gina, 33, said they learned that the hotel lease was coming to an end and was therefore available to new buyers. She explained:
After finding out that it was £10 000 a year, myself and Mark thought that it would be a brilliant idea to buy it - because we were so drunk.
However, the couple soon realised what a gamble they had just made. They still owed a lot of money from their wedding and discovered Gina was pregnant.
This made them fill somewhat guilty. Nevertheless, they decided to go ahead with the venture. Ownership of the hotel was officially transferred to them in July.
They have renamed it "Lucky Beach Tangalle" and say they are recouping handsome returns from it so far.
