The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards are getting closer and DJ Sbu is amped to be the host for the evening, despite the event being surrounded by controversy.

The organisers of the awards show came under fire for booking Brickz to perform during the nominee announcement ceremony when the muso had been out on bail.

Brickz has been convicted of sexual assault and was waiting to appeal his sentence when he performed, since then he has returned to jail.

DJ Sbu has been criticised for still going through with hosting the night, but he feels that it has nothing to do with him.

The DJ believes that it is at the discretion of the organisers to choose the talent that they would like to see participate in the awards show, and he has nothing to do with their decision.

Briefly.co.za previously reported that the CEO for the awards show stood by their decision to hire Brickz because he owed them money and by performing, he would be paying them back.

According to TimesLIVE, DJ Sbu is thrilled to be hosting and feels honoured that the organisers have given him this opportunity.

The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards aim to honour everyone who contributes to the industry, but the DJ admits that he hasn’t been as active as he should be, especially since he will be the host.

DJ Sbu has confessed that he hasn’t been actively involved with the music industry since 2012 as he has been more focused on his business venture, Mofaya.

He has left his music label in capable hands, so he doesn’t feel the need to return to it, although he still owns the label.

While he has not been touring or constantly working on new music, the muso did release a new track earlier this week, entitled ‘Beautiful’, but that is only to keep his fans happy.
