Inclusivity is a message many schools and organizations preach but the Ikeketsetseng Secondary school made a point of practicing what they preach.
The school based in Sasolburg promoted the spirit of inclusivity by implementing a strict dress code at this year’s matric farewell – learners were to dress up in their school uniform.
In many South African communities, the Matric farewell is a grand event. Parents often end up splurging lavishly on costly clothing, shoes, make-up, cars, venue hire, to name but a few.
The irony is that it’s an expense most South African families can’t comfortably afford. Briefly.co.za gathered this to be the key driving force behind the initiative.
The learners were still able to beautify themselves in terms of hair and make-up but most parents welcomed the savings on the big-ticket items.
The post was shared by Ike Mothibeli via the Vaal notice board Facebook group and received high praise from many facebook users.
With such rave reviews, perhaps it’s a trend that will be followed by many other South African schools in the near future.
