- Sibusiso Tshabalala, a street dweller, injured his leg a couple of months ago
- Now he claims a local hospital refused to help him because smelt bad
- The lack of medical treatment resulted in the leg stating to rot
When Tshabalala broke his leg in June, the staff at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto put it in a cast and sent him on his way, the Daily Sun reported.
However, four months later and his leg just got worse and now he has to walk in pain 24/7. Briefly.co.za learned the homeless man has since claimed the hospital refused to help him again because he smelt bad.
“I went to Bara but the nurses told me I smelled bad and they didn’t help stinky people. They told me to go away," he claimed.
The pain has gotten to the point where he can no longer sleep at night. And, to top it off the leg has started to rot because of the lack of proper medical treatment.
Tshabalala added he struggles to get around with his crutches and sometimes he falls, which makes the pain even more unbearable. He has since asked for help, adding the pain is going to kill him.
His condition has gotten to the point that a good Samaritan, Lerato Leballo, unsuccessfully tried to get him medical help.
However, Leballo claimed the nurses of the hospital refused to help the injured man. She added hospitals should be for everyone, regardless of their bank account.
“I don’t know why patients are being treated like rubbish. The fact that he lives on the streets doesn’t make him less of a person," she said.
