- Robin-Lee Burgess and his family were driving along a road in George when his car broke down
- 3 armed robbers attacked them
- Burgess bravely stabbed one of them with a screwdriver, forcing them to flee
A brave man in George, Western Cape, heroically saved his family from armed robbers over the weekend.
According to Daily Voice, Robin-Lee Burgess was driving along the R300 highway. His parents and 11-year-old brother were driving in a separate car.
Burgess' car broke down, and as they tried to tow it, three armed men accosted them. One of them had a gun and the others had pangas, Briefly.co.za gathered.
Burgess explained how the scene unfolded:
The one with the gun who had been pointing it at my dad was busy knocking the firearm and I realised it was jammed.
I saw the two with the pangas pulling my mother and my 11-year-old brother out of the car and I jumped out of my car with the screwdriver and began running towards them.
Burgess said he didn't think of his own life and bravely stabbed one of the robbers several times with his screwdriver. This forced them to flee from the scene on foot.
Incredibly, a police car that passed by failed to stop when Burgess waved at it, he said. Luckily, an Uber driver stopped and his passenger called the police.
Local police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, said a report of the incident was recorded and investigations are underway. There have been no arrests so far, she added.
