With Barcelona enjoying a less than impressive start to their La Liga campaign, it’s clear that their squad is in need of some extra star-dust.
The Catalans have lost some key players in recent years and have struggled somewhat to replace them.
They may have had a stellar league campaign last term but not so now and their Champions league dominance has waned in recent years.
Here we look at 3 players regularly linked with a move that could propel them to greater heights.
3. Frenkie de Jong
There are 2 big youth talents who have been receiving plaudits at Ajax. One is Matthijs de Ligt and the other is Frenkie de Jong.
The 21 year old has shone for Ajax in midfield and defence last season and prior to that won the Juliper League’s ‘Talent of the season’ award.
Due to his versatility, he could be used as a long-term successor to Sergio Busquets but also as an option at centre-back.
2. Matthijs de Ligt
Ajax have been a conveyor belt for youth football in Holland. Of all the talented young Dutch footballers, de Ligt is the most highly rated.
The Dutch team has been blessed with strong centre-backs over the years. Despite this, the 19-year-old made his international debut in 2017.
If Barcelona’s interest is real then they may need to act fast as the youngster already has a long list of potential suitors, one of them being Manchester United.
1. Paul Pogba
The highest profile of the 3 players linked, Pogba’s star quality is undeniable.
However, the 25-year-old has struggled to find his best form at Manchester United.
Barcelona’s interest might stem from 2 things – the tremendous ability shown at Juventus and France, and the player is about to enter his prime years as a footballer.
Throw in the player’s marketability and potential for shirt sales then it’s an even more attractive proposition for the Blaugranes.
