A Grade 12 learner is determined to pass her matric exams despite losing her school uniform and study material in the Khayelitsha fire.
Sinovuyo Chithakalo is a student at Sinethemba High in Philippi, Daily Voice reports. She said:
On Tuesday I’m starting my final Matric exams, and that’s really affecting me because some of my books are burnt, and I don’t know whether I will cope for my finals or not.
She said she would borrow books from her friends and remain focused despite the huge setback she suffered on the eve of her exams.
According to Gift of the Givers, the fire razed down more than 500 homes and left over 4,000 people homeless.
As Briefly.co.za reported, Gift of the Givers is coordinating the relief response in partnership with Disaster Management and SASSA.
It has offered a R2million aid package that includes hot meals, bottled water, blankets, new clothing, school uniforms, stationery packs, mattresses, and other necessities.
