Legendary fashion designer, Sonwabile Ndamase, has teamed up with The Relate Trust in honour of the Madiba centenary.
The creative force behind Nelson Mandela’s eye-catching shirts shared his latest collection at the Mandela Bay Fashion Week.
Ndamase founded Vukani Fashions and the company designed the bright, African-themed creations Madiba was so fond of.
As part of the collaboration, the fashion models donned the bracelets from The Relate Trust.
Briefly.co.za understands the initiative aims to raise awareness and increase funding of the Nelson Mandela School Library Project.
The project ensures that under-resourced schools maintain a healthy inventory of books.
Support of the Trust also provides a much needed employment boost for individuals from under-privileged communities.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Ndamase said, “Relate is showing that the initiatives and sentiment behind Mandela Day shouldn’t just be a one-day event on 18 July. Their bracelets are a reminder to those that wear them, and those who see them, of the importance of lending support to the most vulnerable and desperate people. We have the power as a nation to make every day a Mandela Day.”
