Community worker, Wilhemina Heynes, created a breakfast club last year when she saw the growing number of learners writing exam on an empty stomach.

Many under-privileged children live in Delft and daily breakfast is a luxury that some do not have.

Wilhemina, who turned 60, funded the initiative herself.

She hosted 15 grade 12 learners from Rosendal and Leiden High schools.

She was ably assisted by her friend, Shamiela van Schoor, and the pair decorated Wilhemina’s garage in preparation for the meal.

The breakfast included various treats, such as cereal, fried eggs, muffins, scones and coffee.

The students were not only treated to a lovely meal but enjoyed a talk from a motivational speaker as well.

One of the ward councillors, Michelle Adonis, added the cherry on top by supplying them with a goodie bag containing toiletries.
