- A snake catcher managed to catch it after it was spotted again this week
- The snake will be relocated to its natural environment away from people
A viral video shows the nerve-wracking moment a snake catcher caught a highly venomous 1.4-metre Mozambique spitting cobra.
According to a Facebook post by Reaction Unit South Africa, a taxi driver first spotted the snake outside a house in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday last week.
By the time snake catchers arrived, however, it had disappeared. The serpent was spotted again on Tuesday this week and this time, it was caught.
Reaction Unit South Africa shared a video of the moment snake catcher Jason Arnold removed the slithery creature from a hole it was hiding in, Briefly.co.za gathered.
Some onlookers can be heard in the video screaming in trepidation as Jason coolly lifted the cobra and subdued it. In the end, they applauded him.
The Unit indicated that the snake was to be relocated to its natural environment away from people and homes.
The video has been watched over 14,000 times. Commenters praised Arnold for safely removing the dangerous creature. One wrote:
Very good news. Not a friendly snake to share a property with. Well done to the children for spotting it. Saved someone or a pet from getting bitten.
