The Democratic Alliance has been shaken by the sudden resignation of its chief whip Shaun August.

Along with August, four other members have also resigned - Thulani Stemele, Siyabulela Mamkeli, Greg Bernardo, and Suzette Little all decided to walk away from the political party in support of Patricia de Lille.

This comes shortly after de Lille has addressed her rivals and critics during her last council meeting.

EWN reports that in this meeting the outgoing mayor said she was outraged about a leaked report that would be debated later.

It is crossly unacceptable that councillors will leak information with malicious intent to injure my name. But this is nothing new, I’ve suffered vicious attacks to my good name for more than a year.

It's up to the council to decide what to do regarding a report that accuses de Lille of standing in the way of Achmat Ebrahim, former City Manager, when he wanted to report maladministration and corruption.
