South Africans are trying to deal with the loss of music legend HHP. While his family asked to be allowed to mourn in peace, hip-hop artists who knew HHP took the time to pay tribute to their friend.
HHP's death came as a shock to most of South Africa, but those who were close to him and followed his career, knew he was often battling against depression.
DJ Mo Flava opened up how he felt something was amiss with HHP when he recently had an interview with him.
Something in me wasn't comfortable, I know Jabba man and I was like, there is something that is amiss and as much as he was coming through with new music, and I even said to him 'bro, if there's anything you need just call me. But all of that is in the past, but what we can do is respect the family.
Kwaito artist Mapaputsi had a close relationship with HHP and remembers how he always kept things bottled up. He knew HHP was suffering from depression and always encouraged him to talk about it.
Rapper Khuli was hit hard by the news of HHP's death. He was overwhelmed with unbelievable sadness, as reported on by TimesLIVE.
This has to be the saddest day of my life. HHP had this vision that we would become successful. He was the most selfless person I had ever met. Everything I learnt, especially on how to move and treat people, I learnt from him. I learnt how to be humble from Jabba. He gave so much to see others succeed.
Other South Africans also expressed their sadness:
