A heavily pregnant woman went into labour and was about to give birth next to a public road when a Good Samaritan came to the rescue and assisted with the delivery.
The mother-to-be was laying on her back while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
Drawn to the scene by the number of onlookers, Paul Marx, took a closer look and saw the need to act fast.
As the baby’s head began to emerge and the ambulance no closer, Marx phoned his paramedic brother, Chris.
With Chris’ guidance and the mother’s determination, Paul was able to safely deliver the baby – a beautiful baby girl.
Soon after, Mamokete Mafume saw the commotion and felt obliged to assist.
She recalled how Marx clamped the umbilical cord using his Leatherman and cable ties.
She and Marx guided the mother and baby into her car to take them to Unitas Hospital.
After inspecting both mother and baby, the clean bill of health was confirmed.
Briefly.co.za understands that the mother is so appreciative of Marx’s heroic efforts that she asked him to suggest the baby girl’s name.
Marx, who is a beekeeper by trade, made it clear that he doesn’t intend quitting his day job.
