"Without teachers we are nothing" – Student’s powerful plea goes viral

Atlegang Notshe, a young man who is head boy of his school, addressed his fellow learners and his impassioned speech has made waves on social media.

The young man’s speech was shared by Carte Blanche and the video shows him praising the positive impact of teachers.

The focus was on the upsurge of violent attacks on teachers recently.

He brilliantly emphasizes the point that our society would not exist without teachers.

Tweeps were moved by his motivational words and made their voices heard through social media.

Twitter user, @StormyB48, feels the problem is two-fold – a lack of discipline by parents and the government’s abolishment of corporal punishment.

Her sentiments were echoed by numerous other followers as well.

However, not everyone was in agreement and user, @JohnVLombardo, felt that corporal punishment has resulted in the attacks.

Tweep, @Joy_wa_Afrika, called for perspective and for teacher’s to also accept responsibility for their actions.

This view was met with scepticism as well. Others believe the old Christian values should be reinstated in schools.
