It's very unlikely that Malusi Gigaba's phone was hacked, some technical experts said. This comes after the Home Affairs Minister's home made sex tape was leaked online.

Meanwhile, an investigation is underway by the Inspector-General of Intelligence's office.

On Sunday, the video went viral when it was shared on Twitter.

Experts have said if it is found Gigaba's phone was indeed hacked, those who hacked it could face serious consequences.

Briefly.co.za reported on Monday that Emma Sadleir, a social media lawyer, has warned people that sharing Malusi Gigaba's sex video could land them on the wrong side of the law.

However, Arthur Goldstuck, the managing director of World Wide Worx, believes something else probably happened.

According to Eyewitness News, Goldstuck said Gigaba was most likely careless with who had access to his phone.

"It doesn’t justify the leaking of the video; it almost certainly wasn’t a hack.”

He said the government, as well as all political parties, need to be more serious in its approach on how officials use technology.

On Sunday, Briefly.co.za reported that South Africa's Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, made it public that he is the victim of blackmail.

Gigaba took to social media to reveal that a video of sexual nature of him and his wife is being shared in political circles. He added that he has been targeted for blackmail because of this video.

Gigaba said the video was stolen from him and that he learned of this just before he became Finance Minister early in 2017.

However, throughout the entire ordeal, his wife's unwavering support helped to keep him strong.

Penny Penny also called out the people responsible for leaking the sex tape of Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba.

The music veteran has accused the culprits of being an embarrassment to black people.

Gigaba wrote on his Twitter handle on Monday: "Of course, knowing who did it, and why, will not erase the pain but it may just help save many others from the same fate..."
