Cape Town gang lawyer murdered while dropping kids off at school

- Top criminal lawyer Pete Mihalik was murdered early on Tuesday, 30 October 2018

- The lawyer was shot when he dropped his children off at school in Green Point

- The shooter's identity is still unknown

One of the top criminal lawyers of Cape Town, Pete Mihalik, was murdered on Tuesday morning when he was shot in the head.

Mihalik was shot in what was described by those who witnessed it as an execution.

He was dropping off his children at the private school Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard at about 7:30 am when he was shot.

The advocate's 8-year-old son was injured during the shooting and was admitted to hospital but his daughter was fortunately not hurt.

Paramedics were called to the scene but were not able to save Mihalik.

TimesLIVE reports that the 50-year-old did have bodyguards with him but his killer simply went up to his car window and shot him. A witness says he heard 2 gunshots and then saw a silver car with Gauteng number plates drive away.

According to the police, the vehicle was a metallic grey Volkswagen Polo.

The identity of the killer is still unknown as detectives from an anti-gang unit are scanning the scene for clues.
