A young man in Memphis, United States, has won praise on social media after he helped an elderly woman cross a busy street.

Trish Clark, a local new reporter, witnessed the heartwarming incident and shared it on Local Memphis' Facebook page recently. She wrote:

An elderly lady approached a young man, a stranger, and told him that she would buy his lunch if he would...walk her to her car. That’s all she wanted. She didn’t wanna cross the street alone.

However, Trish heard the man say:

Ma'am...I’ll be happy to walk you to your car and you save your money...you don’t need to buy me anything.

The elderly woman hugged the young man in appreciation and thanked him, Briefly.co.za gathered. Trish shared a photo of the moment along with her post.

The story has gone viral, garnering close to 6,000 reactions, 1,600 shares, and over 600 comments so far. Commenters praised the young man for his kind gesture. Matthew Greganti wrote:

This is what character looks like. This is what love looks like. For all the evil we see in the world every day, there are just as many stories of people doing good like this. To the young man who helped the woman, you sir are what this world needs. Keep it up!
