Video shows dramatic arrest of Uber driver wanted for murder in KZN
Motorists traveling on the M13 near Pinetown, west of Durban, witnessed the police in action on Thursday morning when officers apprehended a suspect wanted for murder on the busy alternative highway.
According to the police, the busy highway, also called Field's Hill, was closed due to an accident caused when the man fled from police.
Two cars collided after the high speed chase near St John's Avenue off-ramp.
Captain Bongumusa Manqele, the Pinetown SAPS media liaison, told Highway Mail police officers tried to stop the Uber driver. However, he fled. The police then gave chase.
Manqele said the man is allegedly wanted for a murder, which happened in May, in Hillcrest.
He added the man started shooting at the police during the high-speed chase and police retaliated.
Briefly.co.za learned that the man slammed into another car while trying to flee the police. As a result, his car overturned.
“He tried to flee the scene on foot but police dogs caught up with him. Paramedics are treating him on scene.”
