South Africans go through a lot of trouble to make sure their homes are as secure as possible. They install alarm systems, burglar bars and even electric fencing.

However, a video was posted on social media recently which showed a thug easily gaining access to a home after he outsmarted the electric fencing.

The video, which was shared on Intelligence Bureau SA's Facebook page, saw the man walking up to a property with electric fencing.

He is seen taking two stick, which he places between the electric fence to give him a space to climb over the gate.

The footage gathered over 105k views and South Africans were left speechless.

Donna Reid commented: "No matter what security you have, if the criminal wants to get in, nothing will stop them."
Ron Modzel added, "Is it time to bring back moats with alligators in them?"
Mash Conrad meant electric fencing is not a great final security barrier: "They broke into my complex which had very high walls , and an electric fence , and they just push the electric fence to the side and climbed the wall and they were inside , and they stole my car . razor wire fencing is much better than electric fence."
