Barcelona star Lionel Messi is facing a race against time to be fit enough to face Inter Milan on Tuesday, November 6 as his side visits the Italian giants for the return leg of their Group B in the Champions League.

Messi missed Barcelona's clash against Inter at Nou Camp after picking up an arm injury while in action against Sevilla.

The Argentine was pictured with his arm in a sling watching the home leg alongside his son, Thiago, in the stands.

His return to action against Inter was earlier on thrown in doubt, with Barcelona initially tweeting the travelling squad without his name on it.

However, the forward listed in another squad list released by the club via Twitter, implying that the 5-time Ballon d'Or winner was indeed in contention.

According to reports filtering through in Spain, the all-time Barcelona top scorer is desperate to play in the tie in order to boost his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or for the sixth time.

The Tuesday clash could seal a spot in the last 16 for the La Liga champions and will be the final game before the voting for the Ballon d'Or finishes.

It is believed Messi is seeking to both fire the Catalans through to the next stage of the competition and send out a message as to who the best in the world really is.
